This incredible book  is an updated and expanded edition of Rocks and Trees (published in 2018 and now out of print).  John Martyn terms the Sydney Basin as the area from the Goulburn River and Hunter Valley in the north, down to the Budawangs, Pebbly Beach and Durras – an area almost as large as Tasmania.   The framework of the book is the geology of the Sydney Basin on which hangs complex, diverse and often very beautiful floras.    Sandstone based floras are hugely dominant in the Sydney Basin  and it is now widely  formally protected in parks and reserves.  It is as heavily illustrated and some photographs go back to the early 2000s, and cover some geological features that weren’t in the original book and new research that has clarified some thoughts on origins of certain formations.  This is an astounding book that will be a huge asset to all interested in this area of New South Wales.
