All plants are listed by their current botanical (scientific) names according to Flora of Victoria, Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne.  Previous scientific and recognised common names are included and indexed.

The area covered extends from Port Campbell through to the South Australian Border, a map is included inside the front cover. In the east is Eastern Maar Country while to the west is Gunditjmara Country.  The aboriginal people have understood the nature of every plant for countless generations and consider them to be part of their culture using them for food, medicine, shelter, tools and weapons. A chapter on the “Six Seasons of Gunditjmara country” written by local elder, Brett Clarke is included and the front cover contains an original artwork by an aboriginal artist.
