Plants of the Great South West: A Guide to the Indigenous Plants of South-west Victoria (Expanded and Updated 4th Edition)

This revised and expanded fourth edition gives comprehensive information to help identify 725 species of native plants found within 20 km of the coast in south-west Victoria.   It includes information on the area’s geology, bioregions, history and significant weed species.  Is covers ferns, wildflowers, grasses, sedges, trees, shrubs and water plants.

All plants are listed by their current botanical (scientific) names according to Flora of Victoria, Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne.  Previous scientific and recognised common names are included and indexed.

The area covered extends from Port Campbell through to the South Australian Border, a map is included inside the front cover. In the east is Eastern Maar Country while to the west is Gunditjmara Country.  The aboriginal people have understood the nature of every plant for countless generations and consider them to be part of their culture using them for food, medicine, shelter, tools and weapons. A chapter on the “Six Seasons of Gunditjmara country” written by local elder, Brett Clarke is included and the front cover contains an original artwork by an aboriginal artist.
