Common Plants of Central Australia

In arid Central Australia, plants have evolved to withstand the unpredictable seasons with unreliable rainfall and drought being commonplace along with fire.  The red sand dunes of the Simpson Desert and the flat sandy plains of the Tanami Desert are dominated by spinifex grasslands and acacia shrublands.  Despite the harsh conditions, there are periods of abundant rainfall and the plants burst into flower and so this ensures life continues when drought returns.  This booklet provides photographs and some technical information about 37 common plants of the area and is useful for anybody travelling to help appreciate its stunning flora.
