The Gurdies Nature Conservation Reserve covers some 260 hectares and is located on the eastern shoreline of Western Port, Victoria. It is one of West Gippsland’s few remaining areas of remnant forest. It is of high environmental significance because of its relative isolation , diverse remnant flora and fauna and unique topography. This book provides information on how to access it and which walking trails to select that match individual interests. The Reserve’s main topographical features, walking tracks and bush trails are described. It also includes descriptions of the flora and fauna seen along the way with a specific focus on orchids and their pollinators. The nutrient poor sandy soil of the region is a museum of evolutionary adaptations and there are notable ecosystem examples of ancient grass trees, orchids and fungi, including many rare and endangered species.
