The first edition of this book was published in 1988 and the second edition in 1994.  It has been out of print for approximately 20 years and this much needed third edition is very important as there is such a shortage of books on this subject and area.    Weighing approximately 1.5 kg, it is an attractive and accessible guide to identification and appreciation of the native flora of the arid region of Western Australia, and describes over 300 species of  herbs, climbers, grasses, shrubs and trees. Each species is illustrated in colour with maps, and the non-technical text gives vegetative and floral characteristics, habitat, forage value, the response to grazing and, where appropriate, the value of plants for degraded land and mine site rehabilitation.

It is the only book of its kind and remains an important resource for pastoralists, mining companies, geologists, shire councils and native tree growers, and will also appeal to travellers and lovers of the Australian bush.
